Hey all, hope all is well. I dont believe that tattoos are wrong or a sin however is there really a need for it, and as a believer will it help in you becoming more spiritually led and does it glorify God? If you search in yourself and really find out the reason then you will act accordingly. thas my two cents

(an excerpt I was reading...thought I should share from www.neverthirsty.org/pp/corner/read1/r00467.html)Since ancient times men and women have cut and painted themselves as a part of their religious worship. It was and is still common in some countries for younger men to mutilate and tattoo their bodies. History tells us that the ancient Egyptians, Thracians, Greeks, Gauls, Germans, Britons, Romans, Africans, American Indians, and many others used tattoos. God prohibits any activities associated with religious worship of other so called gods. Tattoos. The only passage in the Old Testament about tattoos is in Leviticus 19. 1 Kings passage is not about tattoos. What does the word "tattoo" mean? The Hebrew word used for "tattoo" in Leviticus 19:28 means "incision" or "imprint." It has the idea of putting a mark into the skin. The mark has color. If someone wants to object and say this passage rejects all cutting of the flesh and any mark of the flesh, then we want to ask, "Does God prohibit any cutting of the body for medical reasons such as operations?" The answer is no since God wanted the Jewish boys to have an operation. We call it circumcision of males. So does God allow us to cut our bodies? The answer is "yes," but only for a good reason. We need to remember that we are the temple of God. It is not to be abused. Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (NASB) 1Corinthians 3:16 Our next question is simple, "Does God also reject all imprints into the flesh?" Again the answer is no. But are tattoos safe? Are there any concerns? The answer is "yes." There are health risks. The health risks include allergic reactions, infection, viral infections, and AIDS or HIV. It is very common for those who have tattoos to want one or more removed later in life. But tattoo removal is not easy. I would recommend a conversation with a medical doctor before proceeding. Conclusion: The Bible does not prohibit tattoos for non-religious reasons. The Bible has nothing to say about it otherwise. Before someone tattoos themselves they should ask, "Can I do this in good conscience before God?" Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (NASB) 1 Cor. 10:31 If you have any doubts that God would approve, then to have a tattoo would be sin. . . . whatever is not from faith is sin. (NASB) Rom. 14:23

Wow, Kimeko8!!!!!! You really did your research, and i'm sure God is pleased, because His word declares that we must study to show ourselves approved, and it's because of your research, we're now all benefitting from it. Now, to 2988, i just want you to know that as a Christian you must be careful what you say and how you say it, because your first remark about tattoos almost sounds contradictory, and the bible says that an unstable man (or woman for that matter) is unstable in all his (or her) ways. Now, what you probably meant to say is that we should warn against tattoos, if it is indeed wrong and give the youths them a choice between choosing to do what's right, or following their fleshly desires, and choosing to do what's wrong. Also, for something that you can say with such assurance "is wrong" - like getting a tattoo, as you expessed earlier - you should never turn around to say that if someone's going to get one they should get it with a "good meaning". Totally, contradictory!!! So, just lettin' you know, ya gatta be careful what ya say. Make sure it lines up with The word of God, and is not contradictory.

I am so happy we have this forum because the information shared is really good thankyou all for your input I'm enjoying reading the comments and seeing the interactions keep it coming lol
I always tell people that I personally belive your life should speak for you. alot of persons reason, that they are getting tattoos to help spread the gospel, sounds crazy but it's true, for example 29888 "good reason" They say what if I get a Tattoo that represents christ or a scripture? My response usally is why do you need to be a walking bill board, the bible states by fruits people know us, our lives should be the light that shines to a dark world that states I am a Beliver.

personally, i feel that tattoos in today's society have absolutely nothing to do with religion. people try to say "well what if i get a cross on my chest instead of something else" that has nothing to do with God. i feel that a lot of aspects that are disapproved of in Christian society are hypocritical and socially defined. why is having a tattoo wrong because you pierce your body? shouldn't ear piercings be wrong as well? but every Bahamian born baby girl has their ears pierced within their first month of birth, so who are we to tell someone that their tattoo is ungodly and should be frowned upon? i feel that Bahamians, christians especially need to examine themselves before they examine everyone else and keep everything in its proper context. i feel that a tattoo is the same as getting ear piercings but i see no one preaching about that and its stated in the same scripture. i am a christian, somewhat radical maybe but i dont see anything wrong with it if you don't feel the holy spirit convicting you. a cross bearing Jesus' name is no different from a butterfly or a rose. a tattoo is a tattoo and will always be a tattoo.

I dont think a tattoo is wrong or right its an individual thing and solely up to the convictions & standards of that particular individual....its like eating meat or being a vegetarian, your not going to hell if you have one and your not goin to heaven just because you dont have one. GOD accepts us all the same, But for my Christian people if you dont have convictions about getting any, make sure GOD can get the Glory from it...& for those of you who have convictions on the matter dont look at the ones who dont,& vice versa...so we need worry, this small "tings"..we are all diverse and peculiar people...different heights, shapes and colors, thats what makes us ,us as people, we cant all look the same talk & dress the same, each one of us got a different work to do,some in the church some in the highways & by ways...some preach some teach some for honor some for dishonor, and so on, but we are also liberal in CHRIST, who are we to judge another mans slave? But in whatever you do make sure GOD gets the Glory, & it would be ignorant to say or think GOD can't get Glory from something so simple as a tattoo...HE can. Bless!

Well im not gone lie thats a lot of reading up there so I dont know if im repeating what someone said lol but all I want to say is tatoos are addictive... and many people try to justify why they want a tatoo and say well I will get something thats related to the scriptures.... that dont move me because why must you display it on your skin if it suppose to be in your heart?
